The firm

Who we are

A litigation practice, built around contested matters

Headquartered in Shalimar Bagh, New Delhi, and instructed on matters across India.

What we do

Most of our work is contested. Bail applications and criminal trials, matrimonial and custody proceedings, recovery suits and cheque dishonour prosecutions, consumer complaints, arbitration and property disputes.

We also draft the documents that keep clients out of court altogether: contracts, wills, settlement deeds, and governance papers for trusts and societies.

How the practice is set up

The firm deliberately runs a limited caseload. A contested hearing needs a lawyer who has read the file that week, not one reading the cause list for the first time outside the courtroom.

Where a matter needs specialist support, whether that is forensic accounting, a technical expert or senior counsel for a High Court argument, we bring it in and say so up front.

Who we act for

Individuals, families and businesses

Individuals

Facing criminal proceedings, from summons through to sessions trial.

Families

In matrimonial, maintenance, custody and succession disputes.

Businesses

Small and mid-sized, in contractual, recovery and compliance matters.

Non-profits

Societies, trusts and Section 8 companies needing registration and governance support.

Our philosophy

Litigation is slow, expensive and uncertain. Saying so is the first duty. Preparing well enough to narrow that uncertainty is the second.

Tarun Gahlot Law Offices

Candour first

Clients are not helped by optimism. We give a realistic range of outcomes, including the ones nobody wants to hear, and revise it openly when the facts change. If settlement is the better route, we say so, even when a contested matter would earn the firm more.

Preparation is the strategy

Cases are usually decided on the record, not on rhetoric. Documents are examined before pleadings are drafted, witnesses are prepared before they are led, and every argument made at final hearing traces back to something already on file.

The client stays informed

You should know what happened at each hearing, what the next date is for, and what is expected of you before it. Court proceedings are confusing enough without a lawyer who explains nothing.

Ethics are the floor

Not a differentiator. We do not take matters we cannot handle competently, we do not act where there is a conflict, and we keep client confidences absolutely. Access to justice is part of the same obligation, which is why capacity is reserved for legal aid work.
